What is your major & what do you plan to do with your major after college?
My major is math/actuarial science and I plan to be an actuary when I graduate. Actuaries are the numbers people for investment and insurance companies so I’ll be using a lot of statistics and computer science!
Why are you pursuing a degree in science?
I was worried when I was in high school that I wouldn’t have what it takes to make it as a math major until I spoke to a few women in college that were pursuing actuarial science. When I saw that they could do it, I knew that I could too!
How has being in a sorority impacted or inspired you to further your education or career in the science field?
Having a support system of women who are there for me through thick and thin has helped give me the courage to take on my difficult major. All of my sorority sisters understand that school is very important to me and they help encourage me to reach my full potential. My little and I even make a point to have regular study dates. 🙂
What you’d say to others women who are thinking of pursuing a similar field?
- If something excites you, go after it! 🙂
- It’s an amazing feeling to figure out what career you want to pursue and it really helps keep all of the difficult classes and hard work in perspective of the bigger goal.
